How much do sessions cost?

You can request business coaching and life/career coaching programme information from the right hand side of my site (please go to home page) and these include costs.

How many sessions will I need?

We will discuss this at your FREE initial consultation which will be either in Bristol or via phone/Skype. My career clients mostly find 6 life and career coaching sessions very effective. Business clients tend to have less frequent business coaching sessions over a longer period.

How is coaching more effective than talking things over with a friend?

Talking things over can be helpful but coaching is much more than this. In addition a friend is unlikely to be impartial. Hearing other people’s advice or worse still, criticism, of your ideas can actually be unhelpful. As your life and career coach or your business coach I do not advise, rather I help you identify and achieve solutions that will fit well for you. Also it is often difficult to talk openly and honestly to someone you know, for fear of upsetting or worrying them, or of being judged.

How often do we have coaching sessions?

For business coaching, this is something we discuss at the initial consultation. I may suggest fortnightly to start, moving to monthly when this feels appropriate.

For life and career coaching, the first few sessions are more effective if the gap is short- about one week or a maximum of two. After that we will agree dates of coaching sessions to support your goals.

How do I know if I need coaching or counselling?

There can be an overlap between coaching and counselling with both working holistically. However the emphasis with counselling will be with resolving the past whereas coaching is forward focused helping you get clear about what you want and how to achieve it.

What’s the difference between a business coach, a business mentor and a business consultant?

A business consultant will advise you and be instrumental in setting goals for and with you. They will be a source of information and will likely have experience in your type of business. They may even take actions on your behalf.

A business mentor will also likely have experience in your type of business and will have ideas they can share with you. However they are not an adviser and do not claim to have the answers for you.

A business coach works with you to draw out your own answers by increasing your awareness, clarity, confidence and motivation. Challenge and accountability will form part of the agreement. A business coach is impartial and is not attached to your agenda or your choices.

What are the benefits of having a business coach?

  • Business coaching provides focus: when we’re working for ourselves it is easy to lose sight of the bigger picture and immerse ourselves in the urgent or daily tasks. As your business coach I will help you stand back to consider all aspects and develop behaviours to address all that is important in your business and your life.

  • Business coaching provides accountability: Working out what is important to you and why, deciding on actions that address and support this and agreeing them with your coach, makes it much more likely that they will happen!

  • Business coaching provides clarity: through deep level listening, insightful questioning and supportive challenge, I help you straighten out your thoughts so that you can see clearly your path forward and what you need to do to achieve your aspirations.

  • Business coaching improves your performance and productivity: with focus and clarity, your strengths, skills and experience can be fully utilised to help your performance and your productivity.

  • Business coaching develops management and communication skills: when you are clear about what you are doing and why and you have self awareness, you are better able to communicate well and this has a direct impact on your relationships and your management and leadership skills.

  • Business coaching increases satisfaction and enjoyment: Sometimes we forget the enjoyment part! Not only is it important but it is achievable! When you take the time to consider, plan and improve how you work you will notice more enjoyment creeping in, and that’s got to be a good thing!

Is remote coaching as effective?

Remote coaching via telephone or Skype (or similar) is increasingly popular. Logistically it is much simpler and less time consuming but more importantly it works! Some people prefer to work this way even when they are local and there is an option.I admit to being sceptical when I first considered it, but with a substantial experience I now have no hesitation in giving business coaching or career coaching or receiving coaching myself, in this way.
